The Brief Partner Behavioral Control Scale (B-PBCS): Development and Validation

Despite the large growth of close relationships literature, partner behavioral control has been rarely primary focus research. It is also evident that instruments for measuring are scarce. Thus, present study aims to develop and validate a 9-item Brief Partner Behavioral Control Scale (B-PBCS). The validity reliability B-PBCS were examined in sample emerging adults (N = 511; 81.8% females; Rangeage 18-25) who currently premarital romantic relationship. To assess psychometric properties B-PBCS, we conducted series tests examining factor structure (exploratory confirmatory analyses), measurement invariance (configural metric invariance), (internal consistency test-retest reliability), predictive validity. Results demonstrated two-factor solution (overt covert control), acceptable invariance, internal consistency, reliability, overt at baseline assessment linked relationship conflict psychological distress 14-week follow-up even after controlling sex, age, duration. In conclusion, offers valid brief measure assessing control.
